Ce volume fait découvrir au lecteur un atelier souvent méconnu : celui des costumes de théâtre sous l’Ancien Régime. Il met en lumière les différents métiers relatifs à la fabrication des tenues des acteurs, l’univers des marchands ainsi que les coûts liés aux commandes de textiles ou de vêtements. Cet ouvrage redonne une place centrale à l’archive, et plus particulièrement aux sources méconnues que sont les factures des tailleurs, des perruquiers ou d’autres fournisseurs tels que les drapiers, les merciers, les plumassiers, les bonnetiers etc. Il met en lumière à travers les huit articles et annexes qui le composent, un pan de l’histoire du costume de scène longtemps délaissé.

Position: Assistant Professor of French literature and culture, 17th-18th centuries.




Michigan State University


Michigan State University and the Department of Romance and Classical Studies seek to fill a tenure system position within 17th–18th-century French literature and culture at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 16, 2012. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. PhD required—at or near completion by the time of appointment. Near-native fluency in French and English required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated exceptional promise as a scholar with a firm command of the core discipline and the ability to create innovative connections in areas such as global literary studies, digital humanities, or media/film studies. He or she will have shown exceptional success in the classroom and will have an interest in promoting undergraduate and graduate research through innovative teaching models. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to work collaboratively across disciplines.

French at MSU is a doctorate-granting program with ties to other university programs. The College of Arts and Letters has many programs for possible collaboration, such as the Center for Applied Inclusive Teaching in the Arts and Humanities, the Digital Humanities Program, Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities, and the Center for Language Teaching Advancement. Teaching responsibilities will be two courses per semester and will include undergraduate and graduate courses in French, and cross-disciplinary courses in the general education program (IAH) and at the graduate level.

Applicants should submit an application letter, a current CV, a 1-page research statement, a 1-page statement of teaching philosophy, and a writing sample of no more than 30 pages, in either French or English. The letter should include possible availability for interview at the MLA. Review of applications will begin December 12, 2011 and will continue until the position is filled.
